WHAT IS CUPPING THERAPY FOR ATHLETES?

Cupping therapy is a form of alternative medicine where glass, silicone or plastic cups are placed on the skin to create vacuum suction in order to promote health and healing.

Think of it like deep tissue massage... but in reverse, and much faster, easier, and cheaper.

The cups lift your connective tissue instead of compressing it, allowing blood to flow freely and kickstarting circulation. It also helps you get rid of lactic acid faster helping you recover with speed.

This can support muscle recovery, flexibility, mobility, injury recovery, pain relief, and so much more to give you the edge in competition - while everyone else is doing the same old stretching or massage techniques.

OK, BUT HOW DOES IT WORK?

To understand the mechanics behind how such a simple item can bring about such big results we need to look at the fundamental changes cupping creates in the body.

When a cup is applied to a particular area, the suction helps to bring fresh blood to that spot, flooding it with oxygen and nutrients. At the same time, the harmful toxins that love to linger in injured areas are broken up so they can be expelled.

That means less inflammation and less pain. The cup is also working hard to separate the layers of muscle and tissue with firm but gentle suction, making way for more healthy blood to flow.

That improvement in circulation spreads to the healing center, aka the immune system, and voila! The body is now primed to heal itself.

There is no cup like our patented GRPS cup.

Using a unique plunger-like, push button mechanism, it is easier than ever for athletes to get the benefits of cupping where ever they are - from home to the locker room, to the sidelines.

"Flexible cups get to more places glass and hard plastic won't. I also love the large variety of sizes."

Theresa

"I love all the cups, all the colors, all give a tough or softer grip, the blue gives a more gentle grip compared to the clear, but of course, I use them ALL for the right limbs and occasions"

Bridgette

"My son had achy muscles from running and I used it where he was sore around his kneecap and he said the next day he felt much better. I used it on my husband's back as a massage through cupping. My daughter is a ballet dancer and I used it on her back too, she actually loved it. So I'm very happy with my purchases."

Julia

"I am a remedial massage therapist and I started to use the cups on my clients and the results are amazing!

Prior to cupping apply oil or emollient to clean skin for better seal or use in the shower with water and body wash.

Compress the cup, apply to target area, release to create suction.

STATIONARY  cupping: leave on for 3-5 minutes. You may also lift & release, rotate the cup or move side to side.

DYNAMIC cupping external glide(massage): suction the cup to target area, glide up/down or side to side.

DYNAMIC  cupping internal glide: suction the cup for 3-5 minutes, then perform slow active movement with cups positioned over the affected area.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What is cupping therapy?

Cupping therapy is a holistic modality, a form of an alternative treatment where glass, plastic or silicone cups are placed on the skin to create vacuum suction. This technique helps release stagnation, breaks up fascial adhesions, promotes blood flow, and activates lymphatic drainage. Cupping is commonly used for muscle soreness and joint pain, digestive problems, to improve mobility, flexibility and athletic performance. It is also popular for cosmetic applications which include facial rejuvenation, body firming and toning, may help reduce the appearance of cellulite and much more!

Q: how can cupping help athletes?

As demonstrated by Olympians, and commonly practiced by amateur and pro-athletes, Crossfit competitors, runners, swimmers, gymnasts and other athletes, cupping plays an important role in the injury prevention and recovery. Cupping for athletes enduring strenuous activities helps boost circulation, reduce muscle stiffness, improve lung capacity, increase range of motion, improve performance, endurance, agility, recovery time and so much more!

Q: how does cupping feel? will it cause bruising?

Most individuals find cupping therapy very relaxing resulting in muscle tension and pain relief. Cupping should never feel painful, but depending on individual sensitivity and the intensity of the massage, it may feel relaxing or you may experience a moderate discomfort.

The movement of the cup mimics the rolling action of deep tissue massage, where cupping treatment creates reverse or "negative" pressure by pulling skin upward. Redness of just massaged skin and feel of warmth (heat) is an indication of increased healthy blood flow to the area you cupped. If you opt for stationary massage cupping technique, you may notice round marks in the shape of your cups, commonly referred to as “hickey”. These marks are an indication that toxins and stagnation were pulled to the surface of the body, restoring flow of energy and healthy blood flow. The marks are temporary and will fade within a few days to several weeks.

Q: when can i expect results?

In many cases, results are felt or seen after only a few cupping treatments, though many users report feeling and looking better almost immediately. With regular use, you will experience muscle tension relaxation, rejuvenation, increased energy, firmness and a more toned, healthier physique. Reduced stress, improved circulation and pain relief are just some of the many benefits you can see and feel. Remember, results are cumulative. To be effective, use regularly until optimal results are reached, follow a healthy diet, exercise and drink plenty of water.

Q: is cupping therapy safe?

Cupping is commonly used for the relief of pain and inflammation. It's non-invasive, cost effective, simple to use and generally safe. Please consult your physician if you are pregnant, are on blood thinners, have varicose veins or may have a medical condition.Do not use on open wounds, fresh scars, burned or broken skin or on skin inflammations. Do not use over mouth or nose. Keep out of reach of children. Cupping Therapy is not intended to diagnose, prevent or treat any illness, metabolic disorder, disease or health problems. *Individual results can and will vary.

Q: What are cupping marks?

"Cupping Marks" are not bruises. The discolorations produced after stationary cupping may be due to blood stagnation, previous injury or a buildup of lactic acid or toxins brought to the surface. Some cupping marks disappear within minutes, while others may last up to several weeks.

Q: What are the different cupping techniques?

Common Cupping Techniques include the following:

STATIONARYcupping: leave on for 3-5 minutes. You may also lift & release, rotate the cup or move side to side.

DYNAMIC cupping external glide(massage): suction the cup to target area, glide up/down or side to side.

DYNAMICcupping internal glide: suction the cup for 3-5 minutes, then perform slow active movement with cups positioned over the affected area.

FLASHcupping: suction to the target area, lift the cup up, release, reposition to next area and repeat.

SHAKING / ROTATING- move the cup side to side or rotate when in stationary position.

Q: What is myofascial cupping?

Myofascial Cupping is a form of vacuum therapy that helps lift, separate and stretch connective tissue (fascia) to help break up adhesions, nourish soft tissues and improve range of motion. Myofascial cupping works to directly target restricted area by placing the cup over that area, creating negative pressure by lifting and stretching the fascia to pull fresh oxygenated and nutrient rich blood to the target area. This technique can effectively be used to improve mobility, flexibility, soften scar tissue and adhesions.

Q: can cupping help with common cold and congestion?

Cupping is said to be an effective modality for respiratory health. The stretching of soft tissue into the cup opens lungs to help disperse mucous and phlegm, clear common cold or bronchial congestion. Cupping massage helps improve immune function, reduce allergies and asthma.

Q: can cupping help with digestion?

Abdominal cupping helps support gut health by stimulating digestive secretions and assisting with clearing colon blockage. The negative pressure of cupping helps stretch abdominal walls to help loosen stagnant waste and promote digestion. Cupping massage helps break down and liquify fat deposits in order to eliminate them via lymphatic system. Use flash or cupping massage technique (move slowly following your colon's pathway).
